About the role
As Engineering Manager at Uncanny Owl, you will manage the team that builds our plugins and new features while developing processes to improve existing code, squash bugs, and help us rapidly scale our platform.

- You're thoroughly versed in WordPress development and devops best practices and have experience implementing effective processes around both.
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Managing team workload and deliverables and allocating tasks to team members based on experience and skills
- Mentoring developers and performing code reviews (GitHub PRs)
- Working with product manager(s) to manage product releases and identify opportunities for new features
- Ensuring industry-leading team capabilities through appropriate education and mentorship opportunities
- Defining engineering processes and best practices and communicating them to the team
- Performing regular 1:1 meetings with team members to provide feedback on performance and identify areas for growth
Here are some skills that will come handy:
- Experience managing a WordPress plugin development team
- Professional experience with WordPress plugin development, architecture, and standards
- Proficiency with the coding languages used in our products (PHP, MySQL, JS, CSS, HTML) including modern practices (OOP, autoloading, namespacing, traits, interfaces, etc)
- Thorough understanding of build tools like gulp and webpack and familiarity with package managers such as Composer and NPM
- Experience with TDD and PHP unit tests
- Competentcy with version control with git
- Ability to keep complex ideas and features simple. (Simplicity is a core value!)
- Previous remote work experience
Bonus points if you also have:
- A portfolio of work you have personally completed or managed the development of
- An eye for good UI/UX
